COMMUNITY SERVICES & ASSISTANCE
We offer a number of programs to help the people and pets of our area live happier, healthier lives together.
HUMANE EDUCATION
Volunteers visit classrooms with our pets, sharing a wealth of knowledge about pet care, responsible pet ownership, pet overpopulation, and many other topics relating to animals. Learn More...
LOST AND FOUND
The shelter keeps a current list of missing pets from our area. We also advise pet owners on the proper procedures for locating a lost pet.
OBEDIENCE CLASSES AND TRAINING
The shelter staff provides telephone consultations for families who need advice on training or have concerns about their adopted pets. Low-cost obedience classes instructed by qualified obedience handlers are offered for selected dogs adopted from our shelter.
IN-HOUSE PROGRAMS
MEDICAL DONATIONS
The vets we partner with have graciously discounted their services for us. However, we still average $4,500 per month to care for our animals. Some longer term residents require medication which can be costly. You can help us by making a donation to our Medical Fund. Any amount is appreciated - as little as $15 will cover a Rabies vaccination! Your tax deductible donation will directly help the residents in our care. Thank you for your support!
ANIMAL SPONSOR PROGRAM
The Animal Welfare Society's Sponsorship Program is designed to help us give special care to these "special-needs" animals and to help support the rest of our animals until they find the right homes. As a non-profit organization, we rely almost solely on donations from caring individuals. We need your help in order to continue to provide local abandoned, stray, and abused animals with the love and care they need and deserve. Learn More About AWS Sponsor Program
SENIOR COMPANIONS PROGRAM
The Animal Welfare Society will waive 100% of the usual donation fee so that a Senior Citizen (aged 60 and over) can adopt one of our senior cats. It is generally acknowledged that a senior person who lives alone will benefit medically and emotionally if they have a pet living with them to keep them company. Please contact us if interested in taking advantage, or contributing to, AWS-Senior Cats.
DONATION LINE (AUTO)
New to our website is Donation Line. Here you will find a way to donate your old car and have the proceeds go directly to our shelter. Simply CLICK HERE (the link will open in a new page/window). You will be directed to a form to fill out and "Pick Your Charity." Remember to click on Animal Welfare Society, Inc. to make sure your donation makes it to our shelter.
BEQUESTS
Bequests to the Animal Welfare Society, Inc. as a beneficiary in your Will or Life Insurance policy will aid the organization to rescue more animals in our area. Your bequests are tax deductible for federal estate tax purposes. Please contact your estate planner for more information. Also see: About AWS Legacy Bequests and Planned Gift-Giving.
